This week I was able to complete the design of the light switch plate for my bedroom. After the map project for Mr. Christy was completed, I was able to return to the design of the light switch plate. When I left the plate to start the map project, I had the sun design already completed on the cover. I wanted to add more detail to the light switch plate and initially, I wanted to design a moon to put on the opposite side of the switch. However, when I started designing the plate I found that the moon looked awkward on the plate and decided against using it in the final design.

To add more detail without it looking too weird or awkward on the plate, I decided to design stars that were scattered atop the plate. To design this, I had to create the sketches for the individual stars then duplicate the design. I placed the sketches in the areas that I wanted them and then I extruded the design on top of the switch plate.

After I added all of the designs to the plate, I realized that when the plate would be printed, the designs would likely have rough edges. Because of this, I decided that the designs that I put onto the light switch plate had to have rounded edges since people would be touching this plate. To ensure that the plate didn't scratch anyone, all of the details have to have slightly rounded edges to avoid someone getting hurt. Because of this, I decided to fillet all of the edges of the design to make sure everything was smooth and safe to use. As of now, I am waiting to print the design and am looking for another project in the time that it takes for me to get time on the 3D printer.
