This week we continued working on the manufacturing of the Word Clock. From when we cut the frame out on the CNC router, there were some imperfections and holes in the wood that we wanted to fix before we added the letter blocks to the pocket of the frame. To fix these gaps, we needed to use wood fill and then sand down the whole frame. Mr, Christy also pointed out that we should apple a finish to the wood to ensure that the wood doesn't ruin over time.
To fill in the gaps, we had to go up to carpentry once again and ask them for the materials to do this. When we went up, Mr. Marciano gave us wood fill and a scraper to apply the filler into the gaps on the wood. This was pretty easy to do; the fill he gave us was pink while it was wet and dried to a natural wood color. This helped us when we needed to sand it as we just needed to wait for it to completely dry out. After the fill dried, we sanded down the areas that we filled to keep it level with the rest of the wood.

The next day, we were able to apply wood finish to the frame. To do this, we had to first sand all the wood with very high grit sandpaper to ensure it was very smooth upon the finish application. I was able to sand it all down in one period. When we returned from lunch, we used the air gun to remove the dust from the frame before we applied the finish to it. After we cleaned the wood, we applied our first coat of finish to the frame.
