This week, I got a lot of work done on my poster project. Last week, I made the cover that is meant to hold the bearing for the spinning mechanism in place on the poster. When I made that, I realized a mistake I had made in the design because the cover sat flush against the bearing. When the cover is directly on the bearing, the bearing cannot spin freely, so I had to change the design and add a lip around the base of the center so that the part that you hold onto is above the actual spinning part of the bearing.

After this, I got to work on altering the design in CAD. Last week, I realized that the initial design I had for the board was a lot bigger than I wanted it to be. Along with this, all of the blocks I had made for the design were also too big. I ended up scraping that initial design altogether because it was easier for me to remake it with the correct dimensions I found.

To make sure I got the right dimensions, I used the piece of cardboard I cut out last week and cut pieces of paper to the size that I wanted and taped them down in the spaces that I wanted. After I did this, I measured all of the pieces I cut out and noted the new dimensions of each piece. After getting the dimensions of the pieces, I measured where the pieces sat on the board and wrote those dimensions down as well.

After remaking the dimensions, I was able to recreate the design with the correct measurements in CAD. I decided not to take the time to put the words into the CAD design because, for me, I find it easier to put words onto my designs in Inkscape. So once the design in CAD was finished, I designed all the words in Inkscape. The one difficulty I found with this was making the font look appealing while filling up the boxes that would be engraved in. I had to tweak some of my sketch dimensions because of this, but after this was all figured out, I was able to cut out all the pieces to see if I liked how they looked. I'm very happy with the way the words turned out when I cut out the design, and I hope to cut out these pieces in wood on Friday while printing out the bearing cover for the spinning mechanism.
