This week I continued working on my thank-you gift for my teacher and started on a new project. For the bingo card, I ended up finishing much of it last week. I was able to cut out the wood, engrave it, and then glue on all the pieces of paper to the boxes. After I had this part done, I started drawing in the boxes when I took breaks from the new project I started this week. So far, I only have a few boxes done, but I plan on working on most of it at home because all I have left now is to design all the squares.

This week, I started a new project. I wanted to create the skeleton of a boat out of wood to eventually turn it into the model of a basic boat for decoration. The struggle with designing this skeleton is mostly understanding how exactly the ribs work with one another. There are many rows of ribs that interlock with each other in very precise areas. Right now, I am in the beginning stage of designing this boat.

In an effort to better understand the structure of the boat's skeleton and its ribbing, Mr. L suggested looking at the cardboard canoe that a few people in the shop had made a few years back. We took it down from the top of the tool cage in the Machine shop and cut out the covering to reveal the skeleton. This was incredibly helpful compared to the little model I had for the skeleton because it was a lot easier to see how the ribs worked with each other. After taking a look at a good structure for the boat, I was able to better understand how I had to go about designing the various parts of the boat. I hope to get close to finishing the design of the boat's skeleton next week, so I can proceed with the rest of the building of this model.
